If you are trying to have a ‘brand’ then you are probably like me in that you have a consistent theme to images on your social media outlets. However one size does not fit all in these circumstances. This means I keep having to dig around and find the optimal sizes for different images. So I thought I’d compile a list of image types and sizes, there are also copious notes below to help you shortcut creating individual images for each site.
YouTube Channel Banner: 2560 x 1440
YouTube Channel Icon: 800 x 800
Twitch Profile Banner: 900 x 480
Twitch Panel Images: 320 x 50
Facebook Banner: 851 x 315
Facebook Icon: 180 x 180
Twitter Banner: 1500 x 500
Twitter Icon: 48 x 48
Hitbox Cover: 1920 x 1080
Hitbox Icon: 200 x 200
The YouTube banner is a huge image but it need to be like this to allow for multiple devices. There is a ton of information here on channel banners which includes a link to a template. I use Gimp to edit my art work and it can open the template no problem.
The YouTube channel icon and all the other icons are square and so you can use them interchangeably, note that the YouTube icon does get cropped so make sure any key data is not near the edge. Note that this is actually your Google+ channel image 🙁
The Twitch profile banner is a smaller image than the YouTube banner and it has a greater safe area and so I created a new image for this, I then repeatedly used this image for other social media, it fitted in to Twitter, Facebook and Hitbox (because it had a 16:9 base size)
Twitch panel images are shown at the bottom of your channel when you are live, I use mine to link to social media sites, they are relatively small images, 320 pixels wide and approx. 50 pixels high. Twitch will crop these and so you need to be careful about what gets cropped out.
Facebook banner is a fairly weird size but what I did was use my Twitch banner image and just pan the image up and down until it worked. The same worked for me in my Twitter banner
Hitbox cover is a 16:9 image (1920 x1080) and to be honest I found that it’s always best to have all my images in this ratio which means that they’ll fit pretty much anywhere.
Icons are the same image file throughout all the sites listed above will resize a square image to the appropriate size, I used my YouTube icon as the base because it’s the largest icon image
I hope people find this useful and I will update it when I find something new or something that doesn’t work.
